The skull shown here is from the so called Osterby man it was found in 1948. It belonged to a man who was decapitated somewhere between AD. 70-220. According to his hairknot the man was a warrior of the Gerrmanic Suebi people.

Isn't a low forehead (which I believe this man has) more a Faelid than Nordid trait?

Yes, Nordids although often low-vaulted on index like Faelids are usually having a higher forehead. This feature is also exaggerated by the smaller minimum frontal of the Nordid forehead, Faelids have broad foreheads. Since he has a good profile pic available I tried to make a tissue overlay: Still needs some points of improvements: - Nasal shape - Relief in the face - Ear shape

What does low vaulted mean, exactly? I've seen it everywhere and yet have had only now the desire to ask.

What does low vaulted mean, exactly? I've seen it everywhere and yet have had only now the desire to ask. The absolute height of the vault is basically the height from the ear to the top of the skull (headheight), however could also be Basion-Bregma height. It is given in metrical numbers, e.g. 125 mm. is low-vaulted. Another form of low-vaulted is on index, e.g. head-height:head-length, or Head-height:headwidth. Examples:BBH = basion bregma height GOL = max cranial length XPB = max. parietal breadth Headheight (BBH) : headlength (GOL) index Chameacranic: < 70 (low) Orthocranic: 70 - 74.9 Hypsicranic: > 74.9 (high) Headheight (BBH) : headbreadth (XPB) index Tapeinocranic: < 92 (low) Metriocranic: 92 - 97.9 Acrocranic: > 97.9 (high) The person here in question has a low to medium high vault. His forehead is however low taking hairline in consideration.
