I'm still insecure when it comes to actual classification, but I can classify your hair-texture as cool...

"Funny, you *don't* look Jewish." I bet that you've heard that more times than you care to remember. You look Baltic or Nordic to me. I could even picture you among the Germanic invaders in post-Roman Britain.

I'm sure Murph has heard that she doesn't "look Jewish" from Jews, too. lol Like Jewish-American author Jonathan Ames, who relates an anecdote about old Jewish ladies harassing him and expressing skepticism about his Jewishness when he was an albino-white little boy with wispy blonde hair. It's related in his book "Wake Up, Sir!" A similar scene is played out in the old US TV show "Northern Exposure," when Dr. Fleishman meets a blond man named Dr. Greenberg [played by Leo Geter] and he gives him a hard time, expressing incredulity because the guy doesn't "look" Mediterranean enough to be Jewish. The character says that he's experienced that kind of prejudice his whole life from fellow Jews. * Footnote: One should expect some of our more pedantic posters to show up any moment and protest that author Jonathan Ames has diluted Armenoid features and that actor Leo Geter has the telltale deep-set eyes and lip- and nose-modeling to hark back to his more classically Levantine ancestors; and that, of course, both of them exist as outliers of various Western- and Eastern- European Jewish "types". It's true. But to laymen, not obsessed with physical anthropology and bone-structure, their fair skin and hair were enough to get them harassed for not looking enough like a stereotype. Alas, poor Murphee doesn't even have the decency to have the "right" bonestructure, lol.

Thanks guys, for your replies! Yes, I've been told by Jews and non-Jews that "I don't look Jewish." I think my Jewish ancestors mixed with non-Jews in Russia, Poland and Germany. It's a mouthful, but I think I look like a Borreby East Baltic Nordic Alpine mix.

Supposedly, Jewish merchants in northern europe took native wives who converted. Not a bad carreer move for a smart young woman, these husbands didn't drink much except on Purim, they took baths regularly, they educated their children, and the rabbi told them how to treat a lady nicely, especially on the Sabbath, plus they gave you two weeks off each month. And that's how the Ashkenazii got their cold-adapted smarts.

Yes, I've heard that too. Also, up until last year, my family history had been very much a mystery. Through the Internet, I found out that a distant cousin's wife had compiled information including pictures. I found out that my great-great-grandfather had been murdered. Also that there were 'rape stories' floating around the family 100 years ago. (All of this is my father's side of the family) My phenotype seems like less of a mystery now.

I agree. I see similarities with your mother and myself, especially around the mouth, chin and cheek areas.

You cant go by me,cause I live in new York..But you look Jewish to me. I think so too. There is a certain Jewish look that I guess isn't Armenoid, but is still a 'Jewish look' and not a pure European one. Jewish comedian Lewis Black isn't a perfect example, but he shows the features that I'm talking about.
