My great- grandfather was one of many Spanish immigrants to work in the coal mines of W. Virgina: www.wvculture.org/agency/press/spaniards.htmlI'm fascinated with what is considered manly type work. He was able to buy much farm land in Spain with his earnings.

My dad worked in the coal mines. Both of my grandpas worked in the coal mines. My cousin and other relatives did too. Also, I think that I have ESP.

Depends on what people find interesting? My great great great great great grandfather came with the napoleonic armies to Denmark, and he stayed behind when the armies left, so did many others. Couldn't say no to the local maidens? I still got his surname.
Several well known Danes (well known in Denmark, that is) have ancestry from those times.
There's also the fact that I have cousins who are half Australian Aboriginal and half Danish. Their dad went to Australia to work, and met their mother there. She was in a similar situation to the 'rabbit proof fence' people, taken in by euro's and brought up that way, but she knew her parents, so it was not quite the same.
Also, my uncle married a Filipina, whom he actually met in Denmark, where she was visiting some family who lived here. Later they both went to the Philippines, and they live there now.

I also know Spanish soldiers were stationed in Denmark but where later picked up the British navy and brought to Spain after the Spanish insurgancy to help out.

jamGood thing he didn't leave Denmark. The odds of him being killed would have been quite high. The Spanish troops brought back from Denmark didn't fare very well against Napoleon's troops. They were pretty much demolished. By the way, from the map, isn't that "Berid country," so to speak?

I'm the daughter of a teenager. Wow! I'd like to be a fly on the wall when she introduces you to her high school friends.

My grandfather worked on the Verrazano bridge and did the original lighting as an electrian until completion.

If my Dad didn't marry my Mom, his father was gonna use a shotgun on him. Grandpa was Sicilian, so he demanded that there be no shame or disgrace associated with his name or the family. He was staunch and traditional. But he was very loving and warm. Conversely, my Mom's mother felt ample disgrace. She was an Austrian Lady with a capital L. She had a mind like a steel trap, though. Got right to the kernel of any situation, even ones that brought fear into her heart. She had a sense of humour that was absolutely lethal. My Mom took too much shit from her.
