It is reported the US Secretary of State and the Israeli Prime Minister have agreed to hold a three-way summit with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to try to revive peace talks. As part of her eighth trip to the Middle East as US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice has held a breakfast meeting with Ehud Olmert. Reporters covering the trip say Rice has also called on Olmert to take steps that could help bolster the position of the Palestinian President. Abbas and his Fatah movement is locked in a power struggle with Hamas Islamists who control the government. Abbas has called for new elections. This came as protesters outside Olmert's office called for peace between Israel and Syria. Rice held talks with Abbas and Jordan's King on Sunday, promising to increase US involvement in efforts to revive the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process. It is reported the US is trying to strengthen the position of Abbas militarily, by providing tens of millions of euros towards the training and equipment of his presidential guard.www.euronews.net/create_html.php?page=detail_info&article=401103&lng=1
