The Iraq Study Group's report on the situation in Iraq after more than three years of war warned that the situation is "grave and deteriorating" and said there are no easy options for President Bush. "There is no magic formula," the commission's report, titled "The Way Forward," said. Commission members, whose report was eight months in the making, met with the president at the White House to present their recommendations. The commission advises gradually changing the mission of U.S. troops in Iraq from combat to training and supporting Iraqi units, with a goal of pulling back American combat troops by early 2008. It is also urged a more energetic effort to involve Iraq's neighbors in ending violence there. This outreach would include Iran and Syria, which the U.S. considers pariah states. It probably was a waste of time. I doubt that President Bush intended to give it much more than lip service. He's going to do what he planned to do before he even entered the White House. My guess is that there will be a military conflict with Iran and Syria before our troops leave Iraq.

The military-industrial-complex [would] cause military spending to be driven not by national security needs but by a network of weapons makers, lobbyists and elected officials. — Dwight D. Eisenhower
There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket. — General Smedley D. Butler

Butler Come on, Drooperdoo. Do you expect us to believe that those men knew more about war than Bill Kristol and the other neoconservatives do? "War is a racket." It wasn't Cindy Sheehan who said that.
