I've seen some pages that say he's Samoan, so that may be, but he IS from New Zealand! - At least that what he say on his own webpage!

I checked it out, and you're right, he IS Samoan, though living in New Zealand.
In his own words:
"First of all, we're Samoan/German, not Maori. But I think that "fighting spirit", or whatever a particular culture calls it is pretty much the same across the board."

So, he's not even full Samoan.
