www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmy0ZqStGXc&mode=related&search= him and his dad If you think the getup pictured spells eccentric, wait until you hear this man’s story. His name is Yehoshua Sofer, aka Abir Aluf, aka Nigel the Warrior. The Sofer family comes from the Bonim tribe in Yemen. They trace themselves back 100 generations to a ben sofer in `שמואל ב. They moved to Eretz Yisrael in the early 1900’s and settled in the thriving religious community in Chevron. Following the 1929 massacre the family decided to emigrate. They boarded a ship headed for New York, but were mysteriously rerouted by British mandate controlled ports to Jamaica, another British colony. This is where Yehoshua Sofer was born—or as he is know among family and friends, Nigel (with a dgimmel)—making him a true Jemenite (Jamaican Yemenite). Unbelievably this man goes on to travel the world, become a top ranked martial artist, learn the tanakh by heart, become a hard-core bresslever chossid, release a record in Jamaican dance-hall style called Chumus Mitamtem-parodying Israeli secular culture, produce instructional videos for the Israeli Army, and serve as personal bodyguard to R’Yitzhak Kaduri. Now this would be someone to interview!

Totally Jewey. And because he's Yemenite, no one can blame his light hair on the Khazar myth.

Pretty pale for a Yemenite. Not that I don't believe him (ok so I don't). His supposed Yemenite ancestry is a recent concoction to give the impression he has some connection to ancient Israel fighting techniques that were secretly hidden away in Yemen. A lot of martial arts instructors make up a dubious lineage to sell their product.
He was born a brezlover and has a closer connection to the Ukraine than Yemen.

Uh, he looks really Yemenite. And in the video he's being interviewed on Israeli television. Do you know how many Yemenites live in Israel? Think about it. If they thought he was some voozvooz from Ukraine, they'd never take him seriously. Trust me, they can tell. Ancestry is a BIG issue in Israel. But all of that is beside the point. Until you show us some evidence to support your claim, the man is more Yemenite than Ali Abdullah Saleh.

If you choose to believe that he is, that is your perogative. 6 years ago, no mention of being Yemeni and he didn't teach an ancient art, just the Korean martial art Kuk Sool Wan. www.kuksoolwon.co.il/jerusalemreport.htmlHere on his own website he says he traces his lineage to Nachman of Breslov. So which is it, Yemenite or breslover? www.abirwarriorarts.com/The%20Hassidic%20Grand%20Master.pdfHere is the photo of King Husseins bodyguards that he shows and claims are the old guy's uncles (his great uncles?). I stand corrected, he looks just like them. www.keshertalk.com/archives/2007/01/abir_ancient_je.php

Iit should also be noted that there are 3 distinct cultural Yemenite Jewish comunities and within them two diistinct Religious comunities
Sanaan Yemenies (the type everybody thinks of) they Pronounce Gimmell as a J and decend from converts and Israelites, their dress is what u see as "yemenite" ie Wrapped turban hat long thin sidelocks that are curled or braided
Adenite Yemenis Shave Heads and have sidelocks identical to hassidim, within them they have a lighter element
Bedanite Jews, These are the most distinct in culture and appearance they traditonally wear white skull squre caps and have long hair their facial hair is trimmed long beard no mustache, they decend from jews of saudi arabia exiled by muhhamad, they have the most frequent light element in them, but they are also the fewist
the two religious rites Baladii "yemenite judaism" follows Rambam and is like Andalusian Spanish Judaism of old Shami "sephardic judaism" follows shulchan aruch and is like most sephahrdim

Did it ever occur to anyone that he could be half-Ashkenazi? He looks uber Yemenite, despite his fair skin.

I'm sorry, there's absolutely no reason an Ashkenazi man would pretend to be Yemenite. That's like a Spaniard claiming to be Mexican.

There is a reason, he is trying to sell his made up version of Abir as being something authentic. He wasn't making it selling Korean martial arts he learned from a "grandmaster" in a Kingston parking lot, now the story changes and he adds that he was ALSO taught ancient Jewish fighting techniques from Yemen. Damn you are gullible if you believe that shit. People invent all types of phony stories and personal histories to sell their products. Anyways, not sure why you are arguing. In your original post it didn't seem like you thought he looked particularily Yemenite either.
